"SOAP BOX" AND KUDOS

April 2002, the roti canai stall on the second floor of the Taman Tun market - one of our consultants went there for breakfast with his wife and baby. Because the baby is old enough to be active but not yet old enough to walk, one of the proprietors of the stall came out from behind the counter and offered to carry the baby while the parents had their food. There was no immediate, additional financial gain to be had from such a gesture. It was just excellent customer service.

March 2006, a few of us thought we’d take advantage of the public holiday the next day and head out to see the elephant sanctuary at Kuala Gandah in Pahang. None of us knew anything about the place and it was already 8pm so normal channels of information were gone! There is no website for the facility, and Telekom Malaysia didn’t have a listing for the visitor attraction so we were stuck! Chancing it, we called the Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur and asked to speak with the concierge who asked immediately whether we were guests staying at the hotel. We said no, and he said that was fine; he just wanted to know how to get back in touch with us once he got the information we needed. Within 20 minutes, he called us back and told us how to get to the elephant sanctuary and wished us an enjoyable and safe trip. Here’s one organization that clearly is supporting ‘Cuti, cuti Malaysia!’ Well done, the Shang!”

We continue to have countless requests for a section listing poor company practices as a mirror to our 'Kudos' feature. However, as a business averse to high legal fees stemming from defending ourselves against potential lawsuits, we are forced to not develop this part of the site. We also hope that by highlighting those organizations which have excelled in customer service, we can encourage others to just follow those examples.

Add your own comments challenging or supporting our remarks here. We would love to have you embellish on any of the points made.
